My name Kara Buchheit, and I am working toward my master's degree at Willamette University. I graduated from Oregon State in 2006 with a Liberal Arts degree, and I have been an instructional assistant for Gervais School District for almost 6 years. Within this district, I have worked with high school, junior high school, and elementary school students. I will be getting my master's in elementary education because of all the grades, kinder through second or third grades are my favorites.
My family is awesome. My dad works for the same school district as I do, and my mom owns and works in a hair salon. I have an older brother and a younger sister. My extended family is huge, considering both of my parents are one of six kids. So, I'm really close with a lot of cousins, too, which is cool. We are all really close, which I love.
When I'm not working, I love to travel. I like seeing places I've never been before. I've been to quite a few places. Last year was Costa Rica and Chicago. This year is going to be Victoria and Hawaii. Then, I'm taking a break until next summer. After graduation, I'm hoping to go on a month-long trip to Europe. Of course, I also go to Los Angeles about five times a year to visit my brother, too, which is always fun.
I also love sports, especially basketball, football, and baseball. I play in a co-ed softball league and have just started playing in a flag football league. Although I graduated from Oregon State, I have been a Ducks fan my whole life, thanks to my dad. I am obviously a Blazer fan being born and raised in Oregon. My grandparents had season tickets while we were growing up, so we got to go to a lot of games. The Braves are my favorite baseball team because my brother watched them on TV all the time when we were kids, so we became fans. As for the NFL, I don't really have a favorite team. I did play fantasy football this year, though, so I ended up having some favorite players, of course.
With all the volunteering you have done, in addition to have grown up with our dad working in schools, gives you a real life understanding of the learning environment today vs back when you were in school. And being an athlete who desires to stay fit will give you the endurance and stamina to survive day after day in the high paced life of an educator. Go Ducks.
